About the position

mPower Technology has an immediate need for a VP of Engineering. This is a full-time position that will lead and manage all mPower development activities.

Roles and Responsibilities  

  • Build and manage a best-in-class engineering team 
  • Lead/contribute to process development projects to advance new products from concept phase through manufacturing phase 
  • Lead development of flex circuit assembly designs and transfer to fabrication/production while evaluating key metrics including device performance, cost, reliability and manufacturability
  • Write work instructions based on understanding of fabrication tool functionality  
  • Develop and execute a strategy to cost-effectively test and space qualify mPower products, both internally and with third-party vendors 
  • Contribute technical innovation to improve product value and increase market share, including new device designs and manufacturing methods
  • Develop and manage an annual engineering budget. Make recommendations on capital equipment for lab testing and prototyping capabilities
  • Assume ownership and accountability for successful completion of projects/programs
  • Develop and present analyses and conclusions of projects and present those conclusions to others
  • Interact with outside vendors to develop tools and equipment for fabrication of devices
  • Report results both internally and externally with presentations and formal reports
  • Develop strong working relationships across the organization. Train and work closely with technicians and operators
  • Develop understanding of the customer base and design requirements for space solar cells and other products. 

 Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate has an advanced degree in electrical engineering, microelectronics, materials science, physics or equivalent training, experience in solar cell product development, and strong background in silicon PV or flex circuit semiconductor fabrication techniques 
  • Demonstrated experience managing and building an engineering team of 10+ employees 
  • Deep technical experience with particular emphasis on fabrication process development and semiconductor device manufacturing  
  • Already have or able to develop a detailed understanding of the design, construction, manufacturing methods and operating principles of high efficiency silicon mono-crystalline solar cells and perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells and their operation in the space environment 
  • Experience with solar cell device design/theory is a plus 
  • Experience in a production-oriented manufacturing facility is a plus 

Education and Experience

  • MS in Electrical, Mechanical or equivalent Engineering degree
  • 5+ years of experience in semiconductor fabrication, aerospace manufacturing or other similar manufacturing industry
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or Green card holder 
  • Position and compensation will be commensurate with education, experience, and skills

The annual salary range for this position is between $180,000 and $240,000.

About the position

mPower Technology is seeking a Quality Specialist to join our team at our manufacturing site in Conklin, New York. This role will focus on executing quality assurance and quality control activities on the production floor, ensuring that products meet internal and customer requirements. The Quality Specialist will support non-conformance management, corrective action tracking, and day-to-day QA/QC activities.

In addition, this role will serve as an onsite point of contact for quality issues, collecting real-time data, supporting investigations, and relaying findings to the Product Assurance Engineer. The Quality Specialist will work closely with manufacturing, engineering, and supplier teams to maintain compliance, improve processes, and reduce recurring issues.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process and final inspections to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and internal requirements
  • Support and oversee QA/QC activities, including inspections, receiving checks, containment, and precision inspection of non-conforming material
  • Execute non-conformance management processes at the manufacturing site, including: Material Review Board (MRB), Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), Return to Vendor (RTV), and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) follow-up
  • Partner with the Product Assurance Engineer and manufacturing site to drive root cause investigations, identify systemic issues, and validate corrective actions
  • Manage non-conformance documentation, ensuring timely disposition and closure of issues
  • Provide real-time quality data and inspection results to the PA Engineer and internal teams to support decision making
  • Assist with reviews of technical data packages, drawings, and work instructions as needed
  • Contribute to improvements in inspection procedures and utilization of metrology equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, CMM, 3D Solder Paste Inspection Systems)
  • Track site-level quality metrics, identify trends, and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support training of inspectors/technicians on inspection plans, defect identification, and data capture
  • Adhere to all environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures
  • Perform other quality-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 2+ years of experience in a quality, manufacturing, supply chain, or engineering-related field OR bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality, or supply chain in lieu of experience

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quality, Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and inspection methods
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, including GD&T
  • Hands-on experience with calibrated inspection tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, CMM, 3D Solder Paste Inspection Systems, X-ray inspection)
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar QMS standards
  • Knowledge of quality processes (First Article Inspections, CAPA, etc.)
  • Experience interfacing with customers and managing customer-related non-conformances
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other quality improvement tools (8D, 5 Whys, FMEA, Pareto analysis, RCCA, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to liaise cross-functionally and externally
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with MES, ERP, or QMS software is a plus
  • Background in solar cell/module manufacturing or other high-reliability electronics preferred

Must be a U.S. citizen or Green Card holder.

The annual salary range for this position is between $70,000 and $90,000.

Position and compensation will be commensurate with education, experience, and skills.
